A M D, Inc.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., (AMD) is an American multinational semi-conductor company based in Sunnyvale, California, that develops computer processors and related technologies for commercial and consumer markets. Its main products include microprocessors, motherboards, chipsets, embedded processors, and graphics processors for servers, workstations and personal computers and processor technologies for handheld devices, digital television and game consoles.

AMD is the second-largest global supplier of microprocessors after Intel Corporation, and the third-largest supplier of graphics processing units.

Microprocessors

A microprocessor incorporates most or all of the functions of a central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit. In terms of computing power, the processor is the most important element of a computer system, so the performance of a computer is highly dependant on the performance of the processor. A computer-on-a-chip is a variation of a microprocessor which combines the microprocessor core (CPU), some memory, and I/O lines, all on one chip.

Motherboards

The motherboard or mainboard is the component that connects all the different parts of your computer. Most computer motherboards produced today are designed for IBM-compatible computers. A motherboard, provides the electrical connections by which the other components of the system communicate, but unlike a backplane, it also hosts the central processing unit, and other subsystems and devices. A typical desktop computer has its microprocessor, main memory, and other essential components on the motherboard. Other components such as external storage, controllers for video display and sound, peripheral devices are connected to the motherboard as plug-in cards or via cables, etc.

Best Operating Systems

An operating system (commonly abbreviated to either OS or O/S) is an interface between hardware and applications; it is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the limited resources of the computer. The operating system acts as a host for applications that are run on the machine.

Operating systems offer a number of services to application programs and users. MS -DOS, Windows vista, Unix, Xenix, Linux, Mac O.S. 10.5 Leopard, Windows NT, Windows XP, Microsoft 2000 Professional are some of the best operating systems. Embedded device markets are split amongst several operating systems.
